Arrest Made in Joplin Mosque Arson Case

A Missiouri man has confessed to setting the fire that destroyed the Islamic Society of Joplin Mosque in Joplin, Missouri. Surveillance video helped authorities capture 29-year-old Jedediah Stout. Stout is also charged with two arson attempts at the Planned Parenthood clinic in Joplin. No motive has been given as to why Stout started the fires.

The Joplin mosque is the only Islamic center in a 50-mile radius. Community leaders were able to raise over $400,000 in donations from around the world, just three days after the fire. The local imam says they are still in the planning stages of building a new mosque.

Stout is likely to remain in custody after his preliminary hearings at the request of the US attorney’s office, who are seeking an indictment by a federal grand jury.
