ILLUME is seeking talented, motivated interns to join its editorial team. Alongside entities such as CNN, Bloomberg New, Washington Post, Politico and NBC & MSNBC, ILLUME is the ONLY minority media in the United States this year to have received the National Press Foundation award for "quality journalism, balance and fairness" in its coverage of minority communities.
We are seeking a rockstar intern with a passion for news.
The intern will write, edit, engage readers through social media, assist in site management, and conduct story research. S/he will also be involved with the news and reviews sections.
Specific duties include:
+ Pitching, researching, and writing blog entries and articles
+ Posting stories and third-party content
+ Finding and inserting links to related content within new and existing articles
+ Pitching, gathering, writing, and constructing slideshows
+ Collecting, editing, and resizing images for site publication
+ Fact-checking, conducting research
+ Participating in research, writing, and creation of videos
+ Participating in ILLUME's Twitter, Facebook, Digg and other social media efforts
Desired skills:
+ Knowledge of Associate Press Style Guide
+ Knowledge of Adobe Suites such as Photoshop and Premier (or strong desire to learn)
+ Knowledge of basic
email marketing, HTML and CSS (or strong desire to learn)
Candidates who are currently enrolled in a college journalism or writing program are preferred, though we will consider students in any discipline, along with recent graduates or career changers.
Successful candidates should be savvy with Web and social media technologies.
This is a three- to six-month internship.
College credit is available to interns attending participating universities.
